Domus Aurea
Colosseum's Archaeological Park - Roma (RM)
Site: Rome
Year: 2019
Area: 2500 mq
This delicate safety intervention was planned in 2011, following a collapse in the Domus Aurea, near the 15th and 16th galleries of the complex.
Given the complexity of the operations to be carried out, it was necessary to divide the work into different phases: external and internal excavation of the tunnels.
The first phase will begin with the chemical and manual weeding operations to be carried out in the area facing the collapse. Then we will proceed with the operations necessary for the attachment of the collapse margin. Finally, the re-profiling of the soil will be carried out and the creation of a reinforced concrete wall, in order to channel rainwater and avoid future landslides.
The second phase involves the removal of all the internal landslide, the disassembly of the old provisional internal shoring and the assembly of a new structure to shore up the interior during the excavation.
To avoid possible damage to the ancient structure, the points of contact between the historic walls and the new props will provide for the juxtaposition of a "cushion" so as to protect the artifact.
